Do you exist? Not if you don’t have a domain!

Yep, that seems a little harsh. But it’s the truth. Unless you have a domain and some webhosting space where you can put your stuff, you really don’t have much of a web presence.

I love Twitter, Facebook, and all the other social marketing sites. But are you being “social with a purpose”? If you’re not driving your social friends to your own links – your personal webspace – you’re not really building a business.

That’s one of the first premises of online business. The “asset” is in the list. If you’re building a targeted list, you’re building a valuable asset. If you’re not, you’re just treading water.

Why am I bringing this up now? Build Your Online Business with Systems

All the talk about the recession / depression /stimulus…

Ughh!

It’s really ugly. Or so they tell me. My online business is growing by triple-digit percentage points.

If you have an online business – a real one – then you’re probably not affected too much by the recession talk. (Of course, you may feel compassion for those who don’t have a business like yours.)

Here’s a couple of statistics I received in yesterday’s email from Internet Retailer.

1) 151 of the top online retailers reported 2008 revenue increases of nearly 21%. Not bad when the stock market dropped about 40%.

2) A small candle company used a free testing tool available to you and me in about 10 minutes to increase conversions by 20% and sales by $20,000 over a 4-week period

These two statistics represent a relative boom in online business. As a consultant to major corporations, I see Fortune 100 companies laying off thousands of people in traditional business and investing heavily in their online business.

So, where’s the recession?

In your newspapers, televisions, politicians and economists – certainly not in the online business community.

And why is that?

This recession represents a shift – that’s all. It’s a shift from traditional ways that no longer work to systems that are more efficient and customer focused.

Online businesses revolve around systems because systems work when people can’t or won’t.

How much value do you put on value?

As I was driving to Atlanta yesterday, I was thinking about the Niche Affiliate Marketing System workshop this weekend and how I could add more value for the folks.

It’s already steeped in great value with expert instructors who are bound to bring terrific information – especially for the price.

But what else could I do, I wondered?

But I couldn’t get my first appointment in Atlanta off my mind. I was so excited to get there and see my friend. And it really hit me that value is a very personal judgment. What I value, you may not value at all.

I remember when I was leaving Atlanta in 2002 (because the city was closing in on me) to start a new life in the woods in the middle of nowhere known as Eva, AL, I was so excited I told everyone. A co-worker on the job said to me: “Oh my God, living in the country would drive me crazy.

All I could see was how much I valued the country life – what she valued was the complete opposite.

Unfortunately, “value” has become a synonym for “cheap” in our society – or at least a bargain. But I maintain that the best bargain is always getting what you want for a very fair price. That’s not always inexpensive.

Truth is that value is very subjective. I noticed three things that have great value to me personally. Check out the video below to see if they value to you as well.
