Am I a lone nut?

NAMS was a hair-brained scheme, and frankly I’m a little puzzled how the workshop came to be so popular.

But after watching this video I stumbled across on the web the other day, I finally realize what’s happening.

This is a pretty silly video with a really profound message. It’s only 3 minutes long. Watch it a couple of times and pay attention to the end with the people talking in the background.

The key elements are:

  • Leaders
  • Followers
  • and the Movment

With any good, sustainable business with a life of its own, the Leader embraces the Followers in the Movement and is completely marginalized by the result.

I’d love to hear your opinion about this. Leave a comment below – what do you think?

  • Excellent! The message about nuturing your first few followers as equals and thinking about the movement hit me over the head. I think this plays into what a lot of us are trying to do – or think we’re trying to do – when we say our “goal” is to help others be successful. I wonder how many of us have convinced ourselves that this is the case, yet still continue to behave like the lone nut?

  • Thanks, David!

This is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! and exactly what i needed to see at this moment :-) . Wow… synchronicity is an uncanny thing…

Over the past 12 years of working with people, i am completely aligned with the video commentator’s view that leadership is not about the leader, it’s about the people.

i also love the fun aspect of this video — lightness of being is a precious thing, and few people practice it… People tend to used by seriousness and significance, and it’s always REFRESHING when someone simply lives life by having a good time! :-)

  • oops, sorry, i meant to say “People tend to *be* used by seriousness and significance…”
